As with many of the links golf courses in the western part of Ireland, Enniscrone Golf Club was designed in the 1970s by the great Irish golf course architect, Eddie Hackett. More recently, the club engaged one of Ireland 's prominent contemporary links golf architects, Donald Steel, to make significant changes and improvements to the golf course, including the replacement of several mundane holes laid out over featureless land with exciting new holes carved through the magnificent dunesland.
The result is a championship Irish golf links that winds through some of the most rugged and spectacular dunes in Ireland. At the newly renovated Enniscrone, the golfer now enjoys the thrill of a wonderful set of par fives that are carved through the dunes, as well as one of the most spectacular sets of par threes in all of Irish links golf. Yet, for us, what sets Enniscrone apart from many other fine Irish links courses is its balance of long and demanding par fours, such as the 5th and the 18th, against the challenge of its short risk-reward par fours, such as the short 12th and 13th, neither of which should require more than a half-wedge for a second shot but both of which require tee shots threaded through rugged dunes.
With a modern and welcoming clubhouse to go with its first class Irish links course, Enniscrone is a must play for any visitor who chooses to include time in Ireland 's rugged and dramatic west as part of his Irish golf vacation.
