Kilspindie Golf Club was formed in 1867 and is a bit short by modern standards (5480 yards against a par of 69) to be considered a “championship” course. Yet, for those who have played the classic Open-type courses of Scotland and may wish to now experience the lesser-known “local” courses as part of their Scottish golf travels, Kilspindie is a fine choice.

Kilspindie is made up of a number of classic links holes routed between the wispy brown fescue grasses in the rough and the pot bunkers guarding the fairways and greens. Though there are several short par fours, a few of which are drivable if the wind conditions are favorable, Kilspindie also contains its share of brawny golf holes. Our favorite holes at Kilspindie include the 515 yard 2nd hole, the 413 yard 3rd hole, and the 347 yard 4th hole, each of which is set against the Firth of Forth and can ruin a player's score before he has made it too far from the club's 100-plus year old clubhouse.

Speaking of the clubhouse, the classy old clubhouse at Kilspindie provides a warm and friendly atmosphere for a drink following a round on this pleasant little course. For those who go to Kilspindie expecting championship links golf the day is likely to disappoint, but for those who go looking for a fun little links course to include in their Scottish golf vacation a day at Kilspindie is always a pleasant experience.
