Longniddry Golf Club is another of the lesser-known Scottish courses that make for a nice addition to any Scottish golf tour that looks to get off the beaten path and sample some of the more “local” courses that Scotland has to offer. Longniddry is a somewhat unique course, with a number of holes having a links course quality and others having more of a parkland quality (in fact, Longniddry has a number of holes that play through dense forests of stately pine trees).
Though Longniddry appears to be a short course upon a first glimpse at the scorecard and its overall length of only 6260 yards, with fourteen par fours, no par fives and a par of 68 it plays anything but short. With a well-protected set of greens and a number of demanding driving holes, it is no wonder that Longniddry has been used as a qualifying course for the Open when held at Muirfield.
For those looking for a pure links course, Longniddry is not the right choice. However, for those looking for an enjoyable and challenging course that has a little of the classic Scottish parkland feel, and a break from the vagaries of the ever-present coastal winds, Longniddry is a nice choice for a Scottish golf vacation.
