Scotland is the home of golf, with the birthplace itself located in the wonderful town of St. Andrews and many fine former and current Open courses located throughout Scotland. Yet, what makes Scottish golf so enjoyable is not the history of the game or the elite Open courses, instead it is the incredible depth of fine links courses located throughout Scotland and the sense that golf is a part of everyday life in each of the many seaside villages that dot the coastline of Scotland . One can walk into any pub in a seaside Scottish town and quickly strike up a conversation with the local citizens about the Open, the Ryder Cup or any other golf event that may be in the local or national news. For in Scotland , unlike in other parts of the world, golf is truly a game that is played by all classes of society and not reserved for the upper class.
